LittleBlueRhino's Birkbeck Breakfast
As some of you will know, I do not eat anything other than Honey Loops, so I got a good friend of mine who knows Birkbeck and knows Breakfasts to write a short report for me on the new 'Five items for £1' breakfast that has just been instituted in Birkbeck Refectory.
'Five items for £1'
In selecting me to sample the 'Five items for £1' breakfast in the Birkbeck canteen, my colleagues in the R******y were well informed. My cooked breakfast expertise has been honed over many years. Thus it was that with an open mind I queued up at 9.45a.m. to select from a list: eggs, sausages, bacon, hash browns, tomatoes, beans, mushrooms, toast and fried bread. Any five of them would cost £1. Some of my colleagues wanted to dictate what I had but until they pay for me I will choose what I want. I was struck by two things immediately. One was that if you were a vegetarian, you had just as good a choice as if you were an omnivore, the second was that at 9.45a.m. they had run out of eggs. This was irksome, since not only is no cooked breakfast complete without eggs in my view, but it also meant that I had to reselect from my previously prepared mantra of eggs, sausage, bacon, hash-browns and mushrooms. After much consideration I substituted beans for the eggs and paid an extra 50p for coffee.
